I have yet to send out any autographs TTM anytime recently but even so I have gotten some great autographs lately! This is yet another one I won from a blog giveaway! Hmmm...looks as thought I have found a new source to obtain autographs from. Today's mail brought me a new autograph! I won a signed copy of One Republic's new album Waking Up from a giveaway that was hosted on a music blog The Audio Perv. I especially love to collect autographs from my favorite bands but it is not always so easy to obtain them via mail, so I'm really happy I won this and now get to add One Republic's autograph to my ever growing collection of signatures! I have been a fan ever since I first heard "Apologize" and am loving their new songs as well!

I came home from work to find a manila envelope laying on my bed. It's been quite awhile since I got a good old manila envelope in the mail! I don't even really remember when I last sent a request out to be honest so I had no idea who was inside. I loved Saved By the Bell growing up so I was very very pleased when I found it was Mark-Paul Gossellar aka Zack Morris. Also aka my first celebrity crush. Oh what I would give to be Kelly Kapowski! I received my first autograph of the new year about a week ago. Surprisingly it was a request I sent way back during the summer of 2007. It's always nice to get those unexpected requests back. Anyways I received an 8x10 signed and inscribed photo of actress Zoe Saladana as well as a typed & signed form letter of what she's been up too. Zoe was in the movie Crossroads with Britney Spears and she also played the pirate Anamarie in the first POTC movie.

I received a sketch of Nemo and Squirt from Disney animator Victor Navone back in November. I figured I would post it today as it's my last response of 2009! Victor has worked on many notable Disney films such as Finding Nemo, Cars, Monsters Inc. and the Incredibles. I would have posted this earlier but I also had Victor sketch Lighting McQueen from Cars for my dad. Since I recieved it so close to the holidays I decided to give the sketch to my dad as a suprise Christmas present! Now I need to work on sending some more requests out. It seems I never have much time to send them out anymore. I'll try my best though and hope 2010 will continue to bring more awesome successes!

I haven't really had the time to send out any autograph requests lately so hence really haven't been receiving any. It's been about a month since I posted anything new on my blog and last night my dad was telling me that Roy E. Disney passed away. I wrote to him way back in 2001 when I first began sending out a bunch of autograph requests. I received this signed color photo of him and thought it would be nice to post this week in memory of him. The New York Times published a great overview today about his life and many accomplishments with Walt Disney Co.

Got another autograph in the mail today! Lately it seems my theme for autographs is female singer/songwriters and this one is no exception. I got a signed printout on glossy paper of a new artist Erin McCarley. I discovered her music this year when I downloaded her song "Pony (It's Okay)" back when it was the free song of the week on iTunes. Also really love the track "Love, Save the Empty".

Today brought my first autograph success of the summer! I received a signed promotional 8x10 photo of the Season 7 American Idol finalist and winner David Cook. He is truly talented! It's hard to believe he attended the AI audition without the intention of trying out himself but instead to support his brother who was auditioning! I'm happy to add David to my collection. His career is off to a great start and he is one of my personal favorites from AI over the years!

I been awhile since I got an autograph TTM, so I was surprised to see one of those good old manila envelopes in the mail this weekend. In it was this signed and inscribed photo from Kara Dioguardi who is the new judge on this season of American Idol! Love her! She is also a songwriter and has written hit songs for pop artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff, Pink, Ashlee Simpson, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguliera and Celine Dion. My April ended on a high note. It was 98 Degrees and Rising...well, sort of. I met Drew Lachey, my favorite member of 98 Degrees! Yesterday I got my copy of the Goo Goo Dolls Vol.2 special internet edition CD that was only available as a pre-order. The CD came with a limited edition lithograph. A small number of them would be autographed. I lucked out and got one of the autographed ones!!! So excited about this one. I have been wanting the Goo Goo Dolls autographs for awhile but never had any success writing them via venue.

Last year I watched Aaron's movie about the tobacco industry Thank You For Smoking in my Public Relations class. It's a really great movie and for anyone who hasn't seen it I highly recommend doing so! I just recently sent off a magazine photo to Aaron which he returned back to me signed and he also sent along his own BW photo that he signed and inscribed to me. His reply time was super quick (11 days)! I'm really hoping these signatures are authentic because he is such a great actor. I want to see his film No Reservations that he did with Catherine Zeta-Jones as I didn't get the chance to see it in theatres.

Omigod... omigod, you guys! So its been awhile since I posted but in April I finally got another success in the mail, a Playbill signed by the cast of the Broadway musical Legally Blonde. I got rush tickets to go see the show during my Spring break with my sister and cousin and it's phenomenal! Definitely one of my favorites on Broadway. I'd see it again in a heartbeat. :)

Home for the summer now and I'm starting to send out some more requests so hopefully I'll have some cool stuff to post in the upcoming months.

Growing up I was a big fan of the television show Saved By the Bell. My sister and I would watch it all of the time. In July I emailed Ed Alonzo asking for an autographed photo. He played the role of Max, the magician/owner of the diner The Max. This February he sent me this BW 8x10 photo of him as his Saved By the Bell character and he also sent me a signed color postcard sized photo of himself.

I wrote to Carole King about 3 years ago and never heard back from her. I heard that she'd been out on tour for the past several years and I decided to give her another shot. My parents are a fan of her music so I listened to it a lot growing up. I LOVE her album Tapestry, it's definitely a musical masterpiece. I received this back in January and was really excited about this success! I'm glad to add Carole's signature to my collection. I discovered Taylor Swift's music after hearing her song "Tim McGraw", which is ironically named after her favorite singer. I instantly became a fan. Taylor has a beautiful voice and her songs are so easy to relate to. Maybe that is because Taylor is very hands on and writes most of the songs herself. She is definetly going places and I look forward to hearing more of her music whenever she records a second album.

Caroll Spinney

Caroll Spinney is the man behind the vocie of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Seasame Street was one of my favorite shows to watch as a child so I decided to write a letter to him after reading his book The Wisdom of Big Bird (and the Dark Genius of Oscar the Grouch): Lessons from a Life in Feathers. It was a VERY enjoyable book, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and easy read. This success is easily one of my favorites from 2007. Mr. Spinney sent me this smaller BW ISP of himself as well as an 8x10 color ISP of Big Bird, a color copy of a Christmas illustration of Big Bird, an orginal sketch he drew of Big Bird for me and probably my favorite of all.... he drew a sketch of Oscar on the cereal box I sent for cardboard backing on the blank side and there is word bubble coming out of Oscars mouth that says "Hey, Shel- This is great! I've been drawn on an 'Ol Piece 'O card!" Mr. Spinney also sent me a nice letter that was very enjoyable to read. Probably my favorite of the few handwritten notes I have received. He even drew a little sketch on it too. An AWESOME success.. He is obviously a man who truly appreciates his fans! :)

Jerry has produced many notable movies including Flashdance, Top Gun, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down to name a few. He also worked on all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies which I have to say are my favorite movies of his along with the sports flick Remember the Titans. SOOOOO excite about this success!!!! I saw some successes from Geoffrey Rush who plays Captain Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean. My mom and I are really big fans of the movie so I printed up two pictures and sent them off to Mr. Rush near the end of August. He been answering alot of fan mail lately and this week I got my two photos back signed (one inscribed to me and the other to my mom). I LOVE how he writes a little bubble with a message from the monkey... too cute! He also wrote "Hi Shelley, thanks for your letter" on the cardboard I had put in the envelope to prevent the photos from bending. Most definitely one of my best successes!

I came home for the weekend and found two autographs waiting for me. The first one is from Lance Bass of *Nsync. As a teenager I was a HUGE fan of boy bands, and*Nsync was one of my favorites. A few years I got Joey Fatone by writing him when he was in "Little Shop of Horrors" in NYC. I recently heard Lance Bass was playing Corney Collins in Broadway's Hairspray, so I decided to write him. I received the pin-up I sent signed and inscribed and he signed my index card. Only three more members to go and I'll have the whole band!!!

Earlier this year I watched Laura and Max on the reality series Grease: Your the One I Want. The television show was an American Idol- like competition where the finalists competed for the lead roles of Sandy and Danny in the Broadway revival of the musical Grease which opened this summer! Recently Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp returned to once again perform their original roles of Roger and Mark in Broadway's RENT. Although I've never saw the Broadway production I love the movie! I decided this was a great opportunity to write to them again. I sent them a movie ad I got from one of my old magazines and they both signed it. The signatures resemble the ones I previously received but these seem a little bit more messy. Still I do believe they are authentic, they probably just signed it in a rush before or in between shows or something! :)

Mark Henn is an animator that has worked on many popular Disney movies such as Lilo & Stich, Pocohantas, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Best, and The Little Mermaid. I sent Gwen the cover of the October 2005 cover of Allure. It was my favorite magazine cover and I had been saving it to send her via venue to get signed. Today's mail brought me another success from an Eagles member, bass guitarist and singer Randy Meisner. I sent out a letter to him recently so it didn't take very long at all for a response. So far, this means I have 2 out of the 7 members (past and present). Hopefully I will be able to "Take It to the Limit" and get the signatures of the other 5 members as well! :p

I'm really excited about this success! Not to long ago I wrote to Amanda via a set address for a new movie of her's, which finished up filming called Sydney White. I wasn't really expecting much, because I have sent quite a few requests to movie sets over the years and never got any back. Much to my suprise I received this magazine cover and a magazine photo I sent back signed and inscribed. She also included her own 5x7 that was signed and inscribed as well. A great success to start off the summer with! :)

It's Playbill, it's autographs, It's HAIRSPRAY! Yes, I do seem to have thing for sending requests out to this musical, but they are great at responding to fan mail. This past summer, when my sister had seen the musical they didn't have Playbills available for that performance. The theatre told her she could either stop by on another day to get one or write to the theatre and they could send her one. So, I wrote to the cast of Hairspray for her asking for an autographed Playbill. After receiving other successes to Hairspray cast members shortly after sending them I didn't think I would get a signed Playbill for my sister, but suprisingly one came this week in the mail! :)

I seem to be having an autograph drought lately. But I finally have a new success to report! I attended a lecture that Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner on Full House gave about her addiction to crysyal meth. She was really sweet and took the time to pose for pictures and sign autographs afterwards. I got a picture taken with her and an autograph. I've been wanting her signature since I started collecting so I'm really happy about this success! :)

Flashback: Brandi Carlile

I haven't received any new autographs in the past few weeks. Anyways, I thought I would start up again with the Flashbacks... I originally started by posting an old autograph up when I created my blog, and planned to continue until I had integrated all of my past successes in with whatever new ones came. However, I never really kept up with it.

The autograph I chose to be featured as a Flashback this time is from an awesome singer and songwriter, Brandi Carlile. If you've never heard of her, I highly recommend you check out her debut CD Brandi Carlile! Brandi will also be releasing her second album The Story on April 3rd!

I attended a concert in the fall of '05 where Brandi was the opening act, and had the opportunity to meet her. She's really sweet and down-to-earth. She was signing autographs for fans at her merchandise table, which is how I obtained this signed postcard! :)

This fall I saw Adam Pascal live in concert. After hearing his own songs and his re-arrangement of Broadway classics I have to say I was hooked... I instantly became a fan. He is probably most known for playing Roger in the original cast of RENT. He also played the original Radames in Aida, and starred in Cabaret as well. He returned the 5x7 photo I sent back unsigned but he signed and inscribed the other photo I sent, this 10x8 from the movie RENT. Unfortunately, he spelled my name wrong- he forgot the "e" before the "y". Maybe I will try writing to him again in the summer. Anyways, it's still a great success, and I'm thrilled to add his autograph to my collection!

Today I received my first autograph of 2007! Near the end of December I wrote to Broadway actor Aaron Tveit. He is currently starring as Link Larkin in Hairspray. I saw Hairspray in September and thought he was phenomenal! I received this Hairspray collage I made and another 8x10 photo I sent back signed and inscribed to me. He even wrote a note back to me on tablet paper that I enclosed. A fantastic success to start off the year with! Looks like he lives up to that Hairspray rep of being one of the "Nicest Kids In Town". :)

Cast of A Chorus Line

In early October, I had the opportunity to see the revival of the Broadway classic A Chorus Line while it was still in previews. I sent out a request to the theatre in early November. Last week I received this signed Playbill accompanied by a letter from the theatre thanking me for my letter and stating that the Playbill had been signed by the entire cast. I've gotten so many great successes from Broadway theatres recently, and this one of course is no exception!

As any regular visitor on my blog can probably tell by now I am a American Idol fanatic and occasionally write to my favorite contestants from various seasons of the show. In August I had read that Diana DeGarmo was returning to the Broadway show Hairspray to again play the role of Penny Pingleton. I missed the opportunity to write her when she first starred in the musical in the spring, so I was really excited that she rejoined the cast again. I sent her a letter in early September and in early November I received a color 5x7 signed and inscribed photo from her. She also signed and inscribed the index card that I had enclosed with my letter. I am really thrilled to hear back from her! In September I had the opportunity to go to a performance in which I saw both her and Haylie Duff perform. Both did such a great job! Aaron Tviet who played Link Larkin was a favorite of mine as well, so I hope to eventually send out an autograph request to him as well! :)

I was really surprised to receive a reply back in late October from actress Emmanuelle Chriqui. I had given up hope long ago of hearing back from her, as I sent the letter out to her in 2002!!! I guess it just goes to show you that you never know when you may receive old requests back. She sent me this beautiful 8x10 signed and inscribed photo as well as another black and white photo head shot that she also inscribed and signed. I have been a fan of Carrie Underwood's ever since seeing her audition on American Idol during Season 4. She instantly became one of my favorites, as has her CD Some Hearts. She's made quite an impact on country music in the shortwhile since being declared American Idol in 2005, winning a number of prestgious music awards from the Billboard Music, Country Music Televison and the Academy of Country Music.

Earlier this month I sent a request to Haylie Duff via the Broadway play Hairspray where she is currently performing the part of Amber Von Tussle. She plays Sandy on the WB's 7th Heaven. Earlier this summer I had a success with Mel Stuart, but the photo I received had been damaged in the mail. I recently got around to sending another letter to him and quickly received another reply. Mr. Stuart was the director of 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, an adaption of the classic Rahl Dahl novel. He made a movie of the book at his daughter's suggestion. Rahl Dahl wasn't pleased with the result, so much that he refused to watch the movie in it's entirety! I received a black and white photo of Mel Stuart with Gene Wilder that was signed and inscribed to me. Mr.Stuart also enclosed a replica of the Golden Ticket that was autographed by him as well!

I LOVE Disney movies and have a small collection of Disney related autographs (mostly voice actors and actresses). When I came across an mailing address online for Pixar Vice President John Lassester I decided to write to him. He has worked on many notable Disney movies such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and most recently Cars. Unfortunatley, John is too busy to personally reply to his fanmail, so the autograph is pre-printed. I'm not a big fan of pre-printed signatures in general, I'd much rather have the real thing. But wouldn't we all... Even though it's not an authentically signed photo it was still nice to receive something back and it is a cute photo!

I recently received this photo from a young-up-and-coming actress Aria Wallace who starred in the movie The Perfect Man as Hilary Duff's character's younger sister. I'm not entirley sure that this one is authentic, because Aria is only 10 years old, and to me the writing on the picture doesn't seem like the penmanship of a 10 year old. But you never know... Anyway it's a cute inscription and picture at the very least!

A few weekends ago my sister and I saw the Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone. We had front row tickets and it was a great show! The cast were all so talented. Sutton Foster, Beth Leavel and Bob Martin were my favorites! I really wanted their autographs so I wrote the cast c/o the Marquis Theatre asking for two signed Playbills- one for myself and one for my sister. To my suprise today I received two Playbills in the mail today with the cast members autographs all over the cover of the Playbill! I'm really happy with this success. I wasn't expecting a response from them all so soon!

My last and favorite success of the day comes from singer/songwriter Anna Nalick. I wrote to her not to long ago and I got this autographed black and white 8x10 that was inscribed to me. She signed and inscribed the index card that I had enclosed as well. I recently discovered her music this past year and love it! Her debut album Wreck of the Day is awesome, so if you've never heard it you should definitely check it out! The best part of this success is that as I was taking it out of the envelope I noticed that there were black marks on the cardboard behind the photo. When I pulled it out I saw that Anna had personally handwritten a note back to me in response to a question I had asked her in my letter about when she plans on recording a new album!!! So I'm assuming Anna must personally read her fan mail, or at least some of it. She seems like a sweet down-to-earth girl who cares about her fans! I've never received a hand written letter or note back from a celebrity. They have all either been written by assistants or typed, so I was really excited when I saw this! I love country music, but usually only listen to a select few well-know artists like Shania Twain, Leann Rimes, The Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Up-and-coming country singers never seemed to appeal to me for some reason. That all changed a few years ago when I read about Julie Roberts. She started out as an employee of Mercury Records as an office receptionist, then later an assistant to the head of the record label. She worked on her music on side and eventually collaberated with a producer to record demos, one of which was played for the head of Mercury Records, who didn’t know at the time that this new country singer was his assistant! She landed a record deal, and recently released her second album. She is very reminiscent of Faith Hill, and I think she has a promising career ahead of her! I especially like her songs "Unlove Me" and "I Can't Get Over You".

American Idol has been one of my favorite TV shows since it began in 2002. I’m a fan of many past contestants like Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Kimberly Locke, Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice. This season Chris Daughtry was one of my favorite contestants! He stood out to me from his audition and I really enjoyed his performances, especially his cover of rock songs such “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” by Fuel and “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. I was disappointed that he didn’t make it into the finale, as I really thought he had a good chance of winning the competition! Regardless, I think he has a successful career ahead of him and look forward to him releasing an album! As soon as I saw that someone posted online a success for Chris, I wrote him a letter and sent out a request. I was happy to receive this nice signed color photo from him, as opposed to the computer printed photos others received. However, it’s hard for me to tell whether it is authentic or pre-printed. The first one is from actress Betty White. I loved watching the show Golden Girls when I was younger, and she was one of my favorites. I really wanted that too, so I'm going to send Mr.Stuart another request via snail mail, and include a piece of cardboard to prevent damage. I will post a scan when I receive an undamged photo, and hopefully a golden ticket as well!

Flashback: Aaron Carter

In April of 2001, I saw that Aaron Carter was starring in "Sessical the Musical" on Broadway. I am a fan of the Backstreet Boys, and Nick Carter was my favorite at the time. I liked Aaron as well, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to get his autograph. At the time I was a beginner, and sent him a newspaper ad, which wasn't the best idea since newspaper doesn't age well. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes. I take good care of my autographs though, storing them all in plastics sleeves in a three-ring binder, so for being 5 years old it is in great condition! I was suprised to get this one back a short while after sending it off to the Richard Rogers Theater, and deicded to start sending out requests as regularly as possible from that point on.

Hi, I’m Shelley. Welcome to my autograph blog! I'll start my first entry with a little bit about my autograph collecting and how I started. I sent my first autograph request out in 1999. It was shortly after I came back from a family vacation at Disney World, during which I had seen Davy Jones (from the Monkees) perform in concert there at Epcot. I was in elementary school at the time, and oddly a big fan of the Monkees. I really wanted Davy Jones autograph but had been unable to get it. My Dad told me how one of his friends collected celebrity autographs through the mail, and he suggested I write a letter to Davy. I searched online and came across the database The Star Archive as well as collector's personal websites. I found an address for Davy, wrote and letter and sent along a brochure from Epcot and a photo. Months later I received both of my items back in the SASE I provided along with a black and white postcard size picture that he included- all authentically signed. I don’t have a scan of any of these as they are packed away separately from the rest of my autographs, since it was before I really began to collect.

Then in April of 2001 I decided to send out some more requests. As I received responses back I became hooked on the hobby and have been sending out requests ever since. Once I began collecting I wanted to construct a website to share my successes with other collectors, but it became to time consuming and I was never quite happy with the results so it never really took off. Then recently I came across autograph collectors who displayed their successes through blogs. It seemed like a creative and less time consuming way to share my successes with other collectors, so I'm going to give it a try! I collect autographs of everyone from Actors, Actresses, Voice Actors/Actresses from Disney movies to singers and American Idol contestants. I even have a few off-beat oddities like ex-con man Frank Abagnale-from whom the movie Catch Me If You Can is based after, Art Clokey- the creator of claymation shows such as Gumby and David and Goliath to Marcus Hamilton and Ron Ferdinand- cartoonists of the comic strip Dennis the Menace...I will be posting the new successes I receive as well as those that I have already collected thus far.
